Who is the real you?

Who are you, really? Do you limit your identity to a mere title of employee, spouse, parent, student? Do you limit yourself to the classifications of this worldly realm?

"The real me, the spirit child of God, is the author of our righteous desires, our hunger for salvation, and of our longing to eventually become reunited with our heavenly home. When the light of Christ is able to penetrate our hearts, prompted by the enlightened testimony of truth by a focused teacher, it will cause in us a state of awakening, an awakening of the real me, the child of God, so that we can learn to channel our desires to focus on our true needs."
F. Enzio Busche, Unleashing the Dormant Spirit

"Ye are the light of the world..." (Matthew 5:14)

Behind the clouds

"Where is the sun?"

My four year old asks this question often when the weather is overcast, and skies look gray and dark.

Today was one of those days. As I walked around the block, I noticed that the mountains, which we live quite close to, were covered by the thick blanket of clouds. I tried to remember the shape of the mountains, how tall they were, where the peaks lay underneath the clouds. And what about the sun? Where was it, behind those gray overcast clouds?

When my son questions why the sun is not out, I laugh and remind him that the sun is always there, it is just hard to see behind the clouds.

My heart was touched as I thought of the thick layer of clouds as a veil - disguising reality from what we see with our physical eyes. There is so much more to see, if we are willing to look past the clouds.

Does today feel heavy to you? Are you feeling weighted down by the burdens, like an overcast day, and do you find yourself wondering where the sun is? God is real, and he is always here, with his arms outstretched, waiting to give us the knowledge we desire. If we will use our spiritual senses, and not limit reality to what our physical eyes see, we will be ready to learn.

Spend a few minutes with your eyes closed - ask God if he will show you "things as they really are." You just might be surprised!

As you go throughout your daily activities - remember what is real, and what is not.

Family bonds -- children waiting to learn and grow with you, to share divine truths with you -- those are real. Enjoy them. The dirty dishes - an illusion, those can wait!
